Lampedusa è la più estesa delle tre isole pelagie, ha un'estensione di 20 Kmq circa, una popolazione di 5.500 abitanti che si triplica nel periodo estivo. Clima africano caldo umido. E' un tavolato calcareo della lunghezza di circa 7 Km. digradante da W ad est. La costa sul versante nord ed in quello ovest è alta ed inaccessibile. Monte Albero Sole situato sul versante nord occidentale è il punto più alto dell'isola con i suoi 193 metri Rimboschita con pino mediterraneo sulle alture occidentali è alquanto brulla nella parte Nord-orientale. ll versante eat sud-est ha coste rocciose meno ripide che si aprono con numerose Cale che spesso terminano con belle spiaggie sabbiose. E' meta turistica balneare. La stagione calda si prolunga da Maggio ad Ottobre. E' raggiungibile in aereo da Palermo alla quale è collegata da 3 voli aerei giornalieri; e via nave traghetto da Porto Empedocle con corsa giornaliera.
