Evening Tour of
Tivoli and Villa D'Este

The fabled fountains and gardens of the Villa d’Este in Tivoli may be seen once again as they haven’t been for years, bathed in lights, sparkling against the night sky. Tivoli is a historic hilltown outside Rome. Famous for its great monuments, the Villa d'Este and the Villa Adriana (Hadrian's Villa), Tivoli is one of the most popular Rome excursions.

Completed in 1570, the Villa was the home in exile of Ippolito d’Este, son of Lucrezia Borgia. Set amid the hills and springs of Tivoli, it is an extraordinary complex of Renaissance structures, complete with frescoes. And its water gardens are a near miracle. They bubble, drip, soar, roar, and drop in great falls, all conceived and constructed without the benefit of electricity and pumps. Even today, the artistry and engineering of the Villa d’Este are nothing less than astounding.

The villa and gardens have been painstakingly renovated and restored, including the fabled Organ Fountain, powered solely by water to produce the same heavenly sounds that inspired Franz Liszt. Modern electric lighting creates an awe-inspiring spectacle beyond even what the villa’s architects intended.

Now, for the first time, we are glad to offer an Evening PANORAMA TOUR of Rome offering a group visit to the Villa d’Este by night.

Our evening sightseeing begins on August 6, using air-conditioned coaches, and will operate through September 18 on Fridays and Saturdays. The program resumes in May 2005.
