Since Muromachi era Nishijin has prospered in textiles.
The place where the two roads, Imadegawa and Omiya cross, is called
"Senryo-gatuji". It was a bustling place where vendors sold
their raw silk valued at Sen-ryo (extremely high prices). In this
area is Omiya Ichijo, a place with a long and distinguished history.
Tonda-ya House was built about 120 years ago, The merchant's house continues to pass down the atmosphere of the Meji era from generation to generation.
We hope to maintain our culture by retaining our house as a culture & land- mark Japanese Kyoto Style home. We tried to preserve the building representing a time capsule the history and culture of Kyoto, On display you 'll find some traditional instruments and furniture.

lovely ceremony to come. We explain the history of Japan, its marriage
customs, and the furnishings and decorations of this traditional home.
