Soho House Istanbul

Soho House is a group of private members’ clubs for people working in the creative industries. They have Houses in London, New York, Berlin, Toronto, West Hollywood, Chicago and Miami. Istanbul is the 13th.

In 1873, Ignazio Corpi, a powerful Genoese shipbuilder in what was then known as the European quarter of Constantinople, commissioned a palatial residence bearing his family’s name. He engaged Italian architect Giacomo Leoni, who set about importing marble from Carrara for the flooring and facings and Piemonte rosewood for the doors and window frames. Famous artists of the day were invited to create the wall paintings depicting Greek mythological scenes in the entrance hall and on the ceilings of the Great Hall. The building took nine years in total to complete.

Following Iganzio’s death, his nephews leased the building to the American ambassador, John G.A. Leishman. From 1906, it served as the U.S. embassy and residence, and then the US consulate general from 1937 to 2003. In 2014, Soho House began extensive restoration work on the Palazzo, returning it to its former glory.

Amanruya – Aman Resort – Bodrum. True Mediterranean Luxury

Amanruya: Aman Resort. Bodrum, Turkey. Video by Uwe Renners.

There are few places in the world which offer classical history and natural beauty in equal measure. The Aegean region of Turkey is one such place. This fabled coastline is where Homer’s heroes were born, where the ancient Greeks consulted their oracles and the Romans built magnificent temples to honour their gods. Everywhere are reminders of this glorious past, vying for attention with spectacular natural scenery including ancient pine forests and scalloped bays. One such bay on the Bodrum Peninsula is home to Amanruya, a tranquil all-season resort. Named after the Sanskrit word for peace, ‘aman’, and the Turkish word for dream, Amanruya is set on a peaceful hillside, offering breathtaking views of the sea and a winding pathway leading to a sheltered pebble beach.

Pool Terrace Cottages

Amanruya offers 36 spacious and elegant Pool Terrace Cottages, each with a private garden and pool. Designed to welcome and soothe, the cottages are gracious homes away from home and a cool air of sophisticated calm prevails.

The 75-square metre cottages feature a four-poster bed, two couches, a dining table and two chairs, a rectangular writing desk, a traditional Turkish mangal charcoal fireplace, a separate vanity area and clothes closet and a large, naturally-lit open bathroom. This features a rain shower and a large bath tub from which one can enjoy private garden views. Traditional handmade rugs and throws from Istanbul provide warmth and an element of Turkish opulence. Fitted with underfloor heating for use in the cooler months, there is also a fireplace that accommodates a brazier. This can be lit with firewood for use in the living room or on the terrace.

Each cottage enjoys its own spacious garden which leads to a private grey-green marble swimming pool. The layout of the gardens and pools vary. Some pools are square and others rectangular. There are 22 heated pools and 16 are kept at the ambient temperature. The gardens feature pergolas with large cushioned daybeds and two separate wooden chaise lounges with shade umbrellas.

All Pool Terrace Cottages are equipped with LCD screen TVs, wireless internet, DVD players, mini bars, espresso machines, safety boxes, iPod players, air conditioning, hair dryers, electronic keys and king-size beds.
