    • We just wanted to let you know we made it back home after our weeklong detour through Italy. Athens was fantastic. The tours were very good, and short of heading out to the islands, I can't think of a single thing we would have rather done while there. Although we had an excellent time in Athens, Egypt was by far the highlight of our entire trip, including Italy. We just can't say enough about Ahmed, Isis, Ashraf, and all our drivers. We simply could not have done the trip without their help. Ahmed was very professional, courteous, and helpful, and always went out of his way to make sure we were where we needed to be at the right time. Our Egyptologist guides, Isis and Ashraf, were both very knowledgeable and made our visit so much better with their endless supply of information. We wore out both days long before they did. We will definitely try to come back to Egypt when we have more time to spend. Thank you so much for arranging the trip, allowing us to customize what we needed to, and putting us in touch with such good people. And please find attached pictures of us enjoying a camel ride. :-) Click here to see Adrian and Melina's Egypt photo album.

Tour

This excursion combines some of the most beautiful scenery along the Italian Coastline-The Amalfi Drive with the Ruins of Pompeii. Departing from the Maritime Station, you will pass Mount Vesuvius as you begin the drive enroute to the Amalfi Coast. Admire the dolomite cliffs, towering straight up out of the sea and typical villages, which have characterized Sorrento’s Peninsular for many centuries. Pause for a photo opportunity at a vantage point to admire the fascinating coast. Drive along the steep winding coastal road passing Positano, a pretty fishing village, which has become something of a colony of artists and writers. The picturesque seaside resort of Amalfi lies at the mouth of a deep gorge. It is one of the most popular holiday resorts in Italy. As a sea power, Amalfi played an important role in the Middle Ages. Amalfi was part of the four Maritime Republics that included Venice, Genoa and Pisa. You will have time to take photos and stroll along the narrow streets to the Piazza del Duomo. From this square, a flight of 60 or more steps leads to the impressive Cathedral of St. Andrew. The interior of the church dates as far back as the 13th century with the highlight of the cathedral being the 11th century bronze doors from Constantinople. Lunch will be served at a restaurant on the Amalfi Drive.

Your coach will wind its way along the Amalfi Coast passing by Vietri sul Mare onto the autostrada towards the ruins of Pompeii. You’ll visit the extensive ruins of Pompeii, site of one of the most famous excavations in the world. Your visit to Pompeii will include the same highlights as described in tour NP03 (Exploration of Pompeii). You will then board your coach for the return drive to your ship. Time permitting; you’ll stop at the cameo factory to see how this delicate work is done before heading back to the ship.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 1.5 miles over cobblestones and uneven ground. Pompeii is not wheelchair accessible. Comfortable walking shoes, hat, and sunscreen are highly recommended. Guests wishing to enter the Cathedral of St. Andrew on their own must ascend approximately 60 or more very steep steps. Please note that due to local regulations and restrictions, an alternate stop on the Amalfi Coast (Minori, Maiori or Vietri sul Mare) will be made should a parking space not be available in Amalfi. The photo stop will not be possible if it becomes necessary to reverse the tour order where Pompeii is visited in the morning.
