    • Dear Fatima, Omar, and Travel In Style Staff: We had such a WONDERFUL vacation that it has taken us more than a week to stop feeling sad about our return home and to regular life. :) From the moment we passed through customs in Athens to the moment we passed through passport control on our way out of Cairo, Josiah and I were treated with the utmost care and respect. Our transportation service was wonderful in all locations, and all representatives from Santos and Sakkara were quick to answer our questions and provide any additional information or services we required. Our accommodations were top-notch (we especially loved the view from the rooftop of Hotel Stanley in Athens :) , and our guides were always informative and personable. We cannot say enough good things about our trip--it is something we will remember forever. If you are interested, please feel free to look over our pictures at www.charlesrae.net. Thanks to everyone at Travel in Style who helped to make this trip such a success!!

Visit Ravenna and its Mosaics

Video by Italia.it

Ravenna is famous for its beautiful mosaics and are one of Unesco World Heritage Sites. Meet your private guide and minivan at the cruise port of Ravenna and depart for a short drive to the Basilica of San Vitale where your walking tour begins. As one of Ravenna’s greatest monuments, this octagonal Byzantine building is renowned for its colourful and intricately detailed mosaics which date back to the 6th century.

Nearby in a small chapel is the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, sister of Rome’s last emperor. Walking on through the centre of the city you will reach the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo where is the largest surface of mosaic works surviving in Ravenna. There will be time for shopping and for relaxing in a café at the end of the tour before returning to the pier.

Visit San Marino and Ravenna

Visit the most ancient Republic in the world, San Marino, and Ravenna, the mosaic capital. This is a truly delightful full day excursion:

Your walking tour will start from Piazza della Libertà, heart of the tiny Republic of San Marino. The square overlooks the Republic’s Western territory and the region of Montefeltro. Here you can stop to greet the 1896 statue of Lady Liberty before seeing the exterior of Palazzo del Governo (Governmental Palace), the seat of San Marino’s Grand Council.

Just above the square lies the neoclassical Basilica of San Marino. Here, time permitting, you can also have the opportunity to see the Changing of the San Marino Guards.

At the end of the guided tour you will have ample time for your independent lunch and shopping. Collectors may buy unique coins and stamps of the Republic, but if shopping is not your scene, then why not visit the Church of San Francesco or, paying a small fee, have a San Marino stamp in your passport?

We proceed onward to Ravenna for a visit to the most important monuments of the city, the Basilica of Saint Vitale and the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia.

The Basilica of Saint Vitale is renowned for both its choir and its mosaics. It represents a fine example of Byzantine architectural genius and the beauty and richness of its marbles and mosaics are simply stunning.

Nearby in a small chapel is the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, sister of Rome’s last emperor. A real jewel in the crown of Ravenna, the mosaics here date back to antiquity, although it may not appear so because their colors are so rich and vivid.
