Private air-conditioned vehicle to Petra. The fabulous Nabataean City of Petra, carved into rose-red desert sandstone over 2000 years ago, was lost to the world for five centuries. Known as Sela in the Bible, it was rediscovered in 1812. Petra can be reached only by passing between the steep, high sandstone wall of a narrow gorge (‘the Siq’). The dramatic view of its Treasury was made famous in the movie “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

From Petra we board four-wheel-drive vehicles for an expedition to Wadi Rum, the “Valley of the Moon”, where T. E. Lawrence (“Lawrence of Arabia”) organized Arab resistance to Ottoman rule during World War I. We break for tea with the local bedouins. After our visit, lunch is included at one of the deluxe hotels in Petra. We head back to Aqaba with an expected arrival around 6-7 PM.
